An Outrageous Story from Class 1 in Lenox

One woman who is taking this course in Lenox shared with us an absolutely outrageous experience that she had as a baby. She told us of a memory that she had of a time before she had acquired any language skills. She was a baby and her mother had placed her on the floor about three feet from the top of a stairway. She vividly remembers looking over at the stairway and thinking. “I wonder why my mother left me so close to the stairs.” Then she thought, “Oh yeah, she knows I don’t move yet.” After that she thought, “I can’t be having these thoughts because I haven’t learned words yet.” Immediately she went back to playing with the dust mites that were floating in the air visible in the sunshine from a window presumably having returned to her non-verbal infant consciousness.
The story gave me chills (and in talking with other people after the class it wasn’t only me). The woman said she knows beyond doubt because of that memory that consciousness exists before thought (which is what we were discussing in class when she offered the story) and that consciousness is exactly what she is looking for.
The next day I called my friend Carter Phipps who did extensive research into reincarnation for a recent issue of What Is Enlightenment? magazine and is currently giving a talk in London on the subject to tell him the story. He hadn’t heard anything quite like it.

That's amazing. What is your theory as to what is going on here?
I was calling Carter to find out the same thing. I think that there is something like a soul that is a consciousness that exists beyond the identification with this lifetime and in that instant this woman clicked into her soul level consciousness briefly. Many children it seems have vivid memories of past lives, but that awareness usually comes in brief lucid moments that fade. I think what this woman expereinced is similar. Have you read Carter's article (particularly part 3)?
Hmm, no, I'm not familiar with Carter Phipps or his work. Is there a definitive article I should check for?

This reminded me of a memory I had as a baby. I might have been 3 months old or so. I know I couldn't crawl. I just remember being very angry that I was “stuck” in a baby's body with an adult consciousness.
